Students in second and third grade explored nonfiction text features in the library during the month of October. We looked at nonfiction books together as a class using ebooks from wegivebooks.org and ebooks from the public library. Some of the students had the chance to create text features for a nonfiction book they would like to write some day.
I gave them the option of creating text features for an imaginary subject as well. For example, if they wanted to pretend that unicorns were real, they could create text features for a book on that particular subject. Students were asked to create six text features for their nonfiction book. They could create a table of contents, index, diagrams, photographs, illustrations, bold print, captions, headings or subheadings.
Here are a couple of pictures I'd like to share!
